A local Middlesbrough based drone service provider is the latest to become a part of the elusive Small Business Sunday campaign after Theo Paphitis saw the value in their offerings and hand-picked their Business from hundreds of thousands of entries.
DJM Aerial formed off the back of the Oil and Gas industry in 2017 after the MD Dan Maine decided he needed to spend more time at home with his young family. Just over a year in and a fleet of over 7 high specification drones and rovers. DJM Aerial are quickly becoming the go-to Drone service provider for the northeast region.
The company decided to try their luck with Small Business Sunday after being inspired by another successful Teesside business “Pie Jackers” who also became a part of the SBS fraternity back in March. It was only the 3rd time that DJM Aerial Solutions had entered and were not expecting the win.
“We were sat in the back garden enjoying the sun, our phones were in the house and we were only made aware of the win when our daughter informed us of the vibrating coming from downstairs. Our Twitter feeds had lit up and mobiles were on constant vibrate”
The TV Dragon Theo Paphitis has over half a million followers and he retweets his congratulations including SBS original tweets onto his newsfeed which is in itself a fantastic promotion resulting in hundreds if not thousands of retweets.
This is a fantastic boost to DJM Aerial Solutions current growth period after investing in further high-end equipment with the help of match funding from both Tees Valley Business Compass and Digital City allowing them to broaden their operational area and begin to target confined space surveys remotely.
Company Director Dan Maine said, “its a fantastic way of championing our business and putting it out there in front of a wider audience of like-minded people and companies, we look forward to the possibility of meeting up with Theo Paphitis and being involved with the Small Business Sunday event next year.”
DJM Aerial Solutions are currently in discussions with several companies regarding contracts around their asset inspection and survey routines traditionally carried out using manned techniques such as access platforms or rope access personnel, even scaffold. Which would tend to eat into the companies maintenance budgets
Operations Manager Sarah Suffell told us, “We utilise high specification drone technology to reach areas that would normally be difficult or timely to survey. The technology is emerging and we now have access to several machines which allow us to go further than ever before in terms of remote inspection techniques, we can offer thermography, standard RGB, Point cloud, 3D Imaging, geospatial survey, Confined space survey and of course offer assistance with search and rescue.”
DJM Aerial are able to work across the UK but their future plans are around their current operational base of Teesside. Dan said, “The local industry within our hometown is ideally suited to remote survey techniques using drone technology and with us being on the doorstep, the potential could be huge if these blue-chip firms are willing to adopt.”
