CIAO (Creative Ideas & Architecture Office) Recently commisioned DJM Aerial Solutions to carry out an in depth inspection of a Historic building in fishing town Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire.
CIAO Architecture
CIAO Architecture is a contemporary creative architectural firm based out of Italy with offices in London, Milan and Trento. A renowned modern design and creatively biased firm, with several award-winning commisions to their name. Inclusive of their most recent design in Grimsby. DJM Aerial Solutions are proud to be associated with the firm and have had the opportunity to work alongside CIAO on this exciting project.
Grade II Heritage Site
The Grade II heritage site on Eleanor Street in Grimsby used to be an art college but has been left empty for the past 25 years and allowed to perish under several different circumstances including arson. However due to its historic presence, Historic England have involvement with the heritage site and have been working alongside CIAO to come up with a modern design that stays in keeping with the original build and design.
CIAO obviously delivered on this, creating plans to allow the south facing fascia and elevations to remain unscathed and in original form irrespective of their current condition, they will be brought back to life utilising original features and fixtures with the addition of new accommodation to the rear of the build. Point Cloud and Condition Survey
CIAO Architecture commisioned DJM Aerial Solutions to assist with carrying out an in-depth structural and photographic condition survey both internal and external data capture inclusive of orthimagery and densified point cloud, Which would allow for structured decision making during the development.
DJM Aerial Solutions worked alongside a (CARE) associated structural engineer and architect during the project. DJM Aerial Solutions were able to remotely operate within the build prior to entry which provided the information whether or not safe entry could be attained. This, unfortunately, was not the case in certain areas due to collapsed flooring, fire and smoke damage plus evidence of asbestos.
However, the external data capture and point cloud were captured and provided us with sufficient data to allow for a clean Densified Point Cloud, 3D Model and Orthomosaic which allows the adoption of further planning from both CARE associated structural engineer and CIAO Architects.
3D Model and Orthorectified Imagery
We were able to produce a 3D model and Orthoimage due to the amount of data capture and overlap achieved using the M210 and Z30 the combination of images at different angles and prepositioned heights provided us with the ability to produce millions of common data points which in turn could be converted into a densified point cloud and then onto a HD Mesh overlay.
This 3D Model can then be viewed in BIM software or AutoCAD and measurements taken and or scrutinised for structural defects from the comfort of the workplace with an average ground sampling distance of 0.9cm/px this HD 3D Model has enough detailed info to allow the client to make informed decisions.
