Drone Survey for James Latham
DJM Aerial Solutions were recently commissioned via North East survey specialists Landform Surveys to produce a high-level roof survey for timber merchant James Latham at their timber distribution center up in Gateshead Tyne and Wear.
The timber storage and distribution centre currently experiencing a period of growth and development around their premises in Gateshead have been trading since 1757 importing hardwood timber into Liverpool. They now operate across 10 sites dotted around the UK with the Gateshead site looking to expand its premises to keep up with growing demand.
Landform Surveys were contracted via James Latham to carry out specialist survey methods of the Gateshead business premises to establish the foundation and possible underground utilities prior to expansion of their distribution centre.
High-Level Asbestos Survey
DJM Aerial Solutions are well equipped to operate across many sectors and can produce several different outputs dependent on client requirements. The most common being photographic condition survey. These generally come under roof and building elevation inspection and survey.
More often than not the facility under survey conditions is made up of panels forming a watertight envelope. Which may be partially made of half height traditional masonry and steel framework with attached corrugated paneling secured to the steel structure.
In this instance, the roof panels were asbestos concrete which prevents the end user from walking on them to assess any structural or maintenance issues so asbestos survey, especially around roof inspections, is well suited to drone technology.
The risk of potentially shattering or damaging the asbestos panel and causing hazardous dust particles to enter the atmosphere both above and below the asset is too high to consider carrying out an asbestos survey using manned techniques.
Using a drone for roof survey in this instance instantly eradicates the potential risk and provides the end user with detailed information around the condition of their asbestos roof asset. Without putting anybody in harms way.
This way any remedial requirements are targetted and provides sufficient detail for the end user to carry out a well-planned maintenance routine.
