Confined space inspections are generally dangerous and carried out by persons entering the space Learn how drone tech can achieve this.
Confined Space Inspection / Tank Inspection
Internal tank inspection, boiler inspection or confined space inspection is always a hot topic around HSE audits in the workplace. This is down to the amount of danger that generally surrounds the tank inspection process. Tank inspection especially offshore is an arduous task that is often delayed and waivers put in place by classification societies due to the danger that surrounds it. Confined space entry is a specialist subject that deserves all the respect its given. The sheer volume of fatalities surrounding this environment is enormous.
Internal Inspections of tanks and confined space is a laborious task for anybody involved the area is opened up and tested for toxic gas levels such as H2S or lack of Oxygen due to displacement. Generally speaking, if the confined space inspection or tank inspection is to be rigorous which generally are then the area must be pumped of fresh oxygen to displace the toxic gasses this can often run into days prior to arranging the necessary paperwork to enter and carry out the tank inspection.
Once the correct level of oxygen is observed the ventilation is expected to run on continuously during the course of the confined space inspection to prevent the build-up of toxic gasses stemming from the stagnant organic matter that is generally observed in areas with no air flow. A confined space entry permit must now be started again a colossal amount of planning goes into this. Isolations must be secured if the tank is on a common ring main or associated with any automated valves or process. There must be a rescue plan in place involving several other people. A crane or hoist must be made available to allow for rescue. A medic must be on standby. Two spare people must stand by around the entrance to the tank and two people to carry out the tank inspection.
As is obvious the tank inspection procedure is extremely time-consuming and extremely dangerous which is generally the reason for extensions of time or special dispensation provided by classification societies and insurance bodies.
Internal Inspection Drone | Boiler inspection Drone | Refractory Lining Inspection
There is now a tank inspection drone available that requires nothing other than a single pilot to operate it. The internal inspection can be carried out using this specific tank inspection drone by opening up the confined space and allowing the UAV to enter immediately without the requirement for Confined space entry or the weeks of planning and rigmarole that are generally required. This confined space inspection drone is a masterful piece of equipment with a stabilised roll cage surrounding the UAV operated through gyroscopic technology preventing the tank inspection drone from any damage if a collision occurs.
This confined space inspection drone can not only be used for tank inspection but is also the ideal tool to carry out internal drone inspection of ducting, boilers or furnaces within the renewable energy industries. Boiler inspection is generally carried out using scaffold methods or rope access and can run into excessive costs. Due to the sheer amount of none productive time that is required to shut down the area and bring it down to a reasonable temperature before sending people in to build an access method and inspect the refractory lining.
Boiler inspection or furnace inspection can be as laborious as confined space entry so boiler inspection drone can be utilised the same as tank inspection drones or confined space entry drones and the process is hugely simplistic. Utilising our experience with UAV the boiler inspection drone and our experience in engineering and survey can hugely reduce your overheads.
Inspecting the refractory linings and refractory tiles within your boiler or furnace can be an expensive maintenance period which can be drastically reduced. Visual inspection using our boiler inspection drone can cut your maintenance costs by a huge percentage. Call us now for further infomation
